103 Colmore Row - Core blimey!

Core blimey!

If you work in Birmingham city centre or have visited the city recently you won’t fail to have noticed the huge concrete core rising out of the ground at 103 Colmore Row, Birmingham’s most anticipated new office development.

The concrete monolith is up to level 24 and will reach its full height of 105 metres this week. With the core now well and truly towering above neighbouring buildings, you can start to get a real sense of 103’s size and scale.

Not only will 103 Colmore Row be the tallest new office building outside London, with the apex 246m above sea level, making it clearly visible across Birmingham, the landmark office development will be best in class.

Designed by award-winning architects Doone Silver Kerr, the building will provide 223,631 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation over 26 floors, plus 7,665 sq ft of restaurant space on the ground and top floors. It will also feature a winter garden, 18th floor terrace and multi-purpose lobby business lounges.

Scheduled for completion in spring 2021, the site, on the corner of Colmore Row and Newhall Street, is a hive of activity, with main contractor BAM working hard to keep the project on track. Lorries come and go on an almost daily basis.

A number of key project milestones have already been reached and over the coming weeks and months we’re due to achieve a few more, not least the completion of the concrete core and the start of the main steel frame being erected. This will begin following the installation of the second tower crane towards the end of September.

It’s set to be a busy few months as we approach the end of the year. Watch this space for further updates.
